About Us
Mountain Shadow Trading began with an observation that became impossible to ignore.
Japan needs food, and Brazil has it in abundance. Brazil needs technology, and Japan builds it to a world-class standard. The two economies fit together. What was missing was someone willing to connect the two sides.
Átila Lima and Vitor Galesso have known each other for over twenty years. Vitor was Átila's university professor, and the friendship grew from there. It deepened when Átila joined the Mato Grosso State Secretariat of Industry, Commerce and Development as Foreign Trade Manager, where a shared interest in trade data, economics, and development turned that academic bond into a lasting professional one. One year, for Átila's birthday, Vitor gave him a book: Development as Freedom by the Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. The choice wasn't an accident. It said that what they cared about was not only commerce, but what commerce can do for people.
In 2025, as shifts in global trade policy created new pressures and new openings in the Japan–Brazil corridor, the two decided to act. Vitor brought an already-verified network of more than 100 organic and fair-trade certified smallholder farmers in Mato Grosso, prepared through a Sebrae-backed programme and ready for international markets today. Átila brought his life in Tokyo, an understanding of Japanese business culture that only comes from years of daily immersion, and the trade-data experience he built over years of public service.
Mountain Shadow Trading is what came of it: a connector grounded in twenty years of trust, a real network of Brazilian suppliers, and the rare advantage of people who genuinely live on both sides of the deal.
Our Name
The name Mountain Shadow comes from 影山 (Kageyama), the Japanese family name of Átila's wife and the family that rooted him in Japan. It's a reminder that the most lasting connections start out personal.
Our Mission
To connect Brazilian and Japanese businesses the moment they're ready to trade, clearing away the barriers of distance, culture, and unfamiliarity so that what fits together can finally meet.
Our Vision
To become the trusted bridge for Japan–Brazil trade, and eventually Japan–Latin America trade, known for the depth of our networks, the integrity of our introductions, and the long-term success of our clients.
Our Values
Lived Experience
We don't consult from a distance. We live in Japan. Our partner lives in Brazil. We understand both sides from the inside.
Patience
Good trade relationships aren't built in a single meeting. We take the long view, and we mean it.
Integrity
We only make introductions we genuinely believe in. Our reputation is our network, and we protect both.
Human Capability
Inspired by the ideas that shaped this partnership, we believe trade is most valuable when it expands what people are able to do and become: for the companies we work with, and for the producers behind every product.
The People Behind the Bridge
Átila Lima
Founder — Tokyo, Japan
Átila started his career in government, as Foreign Trade Manager at the Mato Grosso State Secretariat of Industry, Commerce and Development, where he built his grounding in trade data analysis and market intelligence. He later studied International Business in Canada, adding academic footing to hands-on experience.
In 2019 he moved to Tokyo after marrying a Japanese national, and built a life rooted in Japanese culture and society. His daughter attends one of Tokyo's most competitive private schools, a year-long application process that taught him as much about Japan as any business course could.
Átila is the link between Brazil's productive capacity and the Japanese market: someone who understands both sides not from studying them, but from living them.
Vitor Galesso

Founder of Universo Assessoria Empresarial, Vitor brings the institutional trust, the legal fluency, and the human network that no database can replicate. He is the reason Mountain Shadow Trading's Brazilian offering is concrete from day one.
